“Teaching became a central part of my activity. The reason for that is my realization of the fact that passing the knowledge to the future generation is highly important and has to be done fast, before we loose any traces of it. For me art means teaching and transferring ideas from one’s mind to another. Not only to preserve the culture. To see the smile on the face of my students, that is my reward.”
These are Uri Hofi’s words about teaching and art, in “The Golden Hammer”, an interview granted this month to Egophobia magazine. He isn’t only a follower of the tradition but also a highly inventive and modern craftsman.
September, 2008
The September spotlight is on Sean Orlando, an industrial designer from Oakland California. He is the creator of the Steampunk Tree House, an installation crafted by him and his crew for Burning Man 2007. An interview taken by art critic Adrian Ionita in Egophobia , was translated in Romanian by Ioana Baciu and is an in-depth exploration of Sean’s philosophy and artistic creation.
August, 2008
My pick of the month is Steampunk activist Johnny Payphone. This was easy for me, since Johnny was interviewed recently by the Romanian avangarde magazine Egophobia. He is the first Steampunk artist and activist to do so, and I am sure that his effort will stay for a long time as a model of promoting Steampunk worldwide.
